"Everything here (the Pare that is) is beyond fantastic, am really very happy there! Staying with Mr.Ismaili is really good, he's the nicest man and I'm so well looked after. The teaching is excellent, form 1 are hard work but thats mostly down to communication problems, form 3 are fantastic and seem to be learning really quickly which is very satisfying. All the other teachers are extremely friendly and I'm getting on well with all of them"

"Time is really flying by. I've been here almost a month and it feels like I just arrived. When Julia and I returned to Kirongaya after our Longido excursions it felt like we were coming home. The grandchildren met us at the bus stop and were all hugs and smiles. To be quite honest it felt good to get back to something familiar.
This last week I have been teaching at the secondary school. I teach form 2 and 4 which is equivalent to our 9th and 11th grade English and Mathematics. The secondary students in English are a little better than the little 3rd graders, but I still find myself translating a lot. The most difficult thing for me has been dealing with the system, not the actual teaching. The timetables change regularly and no one can even tell us the last day of school. I think this has been an exercise of patience for me:) Julia and I laugh daily about it all the time because we never know what we will be teaching until we're actually in the classroom sometimes. However, the secondary students like those in the primary are eager to learn and are a lot of fun. So I've enjoyed the teaching greatly."

"I do think MondoChallenge has its heart in the right place. I realise that all the volunteers who come through the organisation really want to help people and also experience the local culture. So I think that the most valuable asset that MondoChallenge has is its fun, kind and smart volunteers"
