Tanzania
- Teaching in Pangani
Pangani is one of Tanzania's loveliest coastal villages with long golden beaches beside the Indian Ocean. Located at the mouth of the Pangani River, Pangani has a wealth of interesting coastal and marine life.
Currently, our programme in Pangani offers volunteers the opportunity to teach at various schools, either Primary or Secondary Schools.
Accommodation is with local families and volunteers have often supported community activities such as the Angeninge Theatre Group, promoting AIDS awareness, arranging swimming lessons and organising a community library.
Adult Teaching: The CCM Community School, located in Pangani village centre, is open to anybody and is free of charge. It currently caters for students ranging from age 8 to age 50. The students learn English-speaking skills useful to them in their jobs.
At Gombero school, volunteers are teaching adults. The school is 15 minutes walk from volunteer housing and offers a great opportunity to teach in a very interactive environment.
Primary School: Both in Pangani and across the River in Bweni, we teach in various primary schools. English is the most popular subject but we often help with Sports and Maths (if appropriate). There is also an adult class in Bweni so a degree of variety is encouraged.
