Tanzania - Teaching in Longido

Volunteer Comments

Simon Crowe from the UK

"It's an opportunity that really opens your eyes and mind to other cultures and the day to day experiences of third world people"

Karen Callow from the UK

"A fantastic experience! I built some amazing relationships with the local people and learnt so much about them and about myself. Thank you for making it possible!"

Michael Hill from the UK

"Being a volunteer here in Longido is very interesting and quite different. Within the population of 2000 people there is a strange mix of traditional and modern, giving me the chance to explore both worlds. From the lively church services to the ritual circumcisions! I had never done any teaching before but found the challenge really enjoyable. Especially since the pupils are so keen to learn and fun to teach."

Julian Wyatt from Australia

“The fact that I am so passionate about the program shows how much it meant to me. I think the best thing about Mondo is the opportunity to engage with the local community almost as if you are one of them. The flexibility (eg free to design the course) attracted me initially and was also something which made me a lot happier there. Most of all, I really felt I made a difference.”

Ivan Siu from the UK

"Longido was an excellent place! It was remote enough to keep the traditional African way of life preserved, though not too far away from a major city (Arusha).it was in the middle of the African wilderness and surrounded by some of the best national parks, but also the climate there was pleasant...not too hot as it's up on the African Highland. I was with two other MondoChallenge volunteers most of the time as we lived and worked together. We had a great time together though we had different personalities and backgrounds. My time in Tanzania was very fruitful and inspiring; it's probably the happiest time of my life! "
