- Teaching in the Arusha Region
Currently, our programmes around Arusha offer volunteers the opportunity to teach at primary or secondary schools as well as adult classes on the slopes of Mt Meru.
The schools and accommodation are situated in the lush green foothills of Mount Meru, 30 minutes from Arusha. Volunteers teach at government primary schools. Those schools suffer from a shortage of teachers and classrooms. We have recently built four new classrooms and provided desks for 320 pupils and have plans to do the same again over the next 12 months. We work with the local teachers, exchanging teaching methods to improve the effectiveness of the classes. We also need volunteers to teach mathematics and science subjects at secondary schools.
Computer and Adult English classes are also being run in this area.
Volunteers are teaching to pupils from 6 to 14 years old whose first language is Maasai, their second language Swahili and their third English.
Accommodation is provided with local families in fairly comfortable housing approximately 20 minutes walk from the schools.
