Tanzania
- HIV Grants Programme
With 50% of the adult population in parts of Northern Tanzania being HIV positive, the potential impact on livelihoods, education and family life are catastrophic.
The HIV Grant Programme aims to provide small grants to individuals who have been infected with HIV or related illnesses, and whose husband/wife has died of AIDS or illnesses resulting from AIDS.
MondoChallenge is working in partnership with local organisation in order to help these populations sustain livelihoods.
HOPE Trust fund in Ngaramtoni has shown great success and results. Thanks to its simple yet very effective grant scheme, the HOPE has already considerably improve the life of a lot of HIV affected families, providing them a modest initial capital to allow them to set up small businesses. So far 31 families received grants
MAISHA Trust fund in Moshi, where the first MondoChallenge volunteers started in 2006. We aim to implement in Moshi the same business scheme based structurally on the HOPE Trust Model.
And currently, we are developing a partnership with an organisation in Tanga named TAWG with which we would like to implement the HIV Grant programme in this region of Tanzania.
For a bit more of an insight in to these programmes, please see our video for the MondoChallenge Foundation and the work we are doing in Tanzania.
