Sri Lanka - Teaching in Pilimathalawa

Our project based in the Pilimathalawa region involves work at a Buddhist training centre for monks and includes opportunities to teach local villagers in the temple.

The temple is located in a typical small Sri Lankan town about 15 km from Kandy. Accommodation for the volunteer is with a nearby host family.

The main objective of these projects is to teach English conversation to monks and disadvantaged students and adults in the temple, giving the volunteer a fascinating insight into Buddhism.

Through these classes, the MondoChallenge volunteers help provide educational opportunities which would not otherwise exist in this rural community.
