Volunteer Comments, South Coast

Philip Jach from UK (Thotagamuwa School)
"It's strange to be leaving - I feel so at home here now! We left Seenigama today, although I have to go back briefly to the Foundation, and it was my last day at school yesterday.

It was so nice, they put on a special farewell ceremony and had dancing and presented me with a really nice plaque - I was so touched. My time here has been incredible and I have taken so much from it - I think that future volunteers will have a great time here."

Vivian Beck from UK (Orphanage)
"The area of destruction is so huge. In Galle alone, there are about 50 camps. Of course seeing all the devastation was extremely sad, but I was actually quite moved to see what was already being done.

Annie (Mondo volunteer) has been great, of course. She lets Nithila (Mondo Country Manager) or Hugh and Mary (Mondo volunteers) know what she needs and Nithila has been great in helping to find suppliers and arranging transport.

We were there only 2 weeks after the tsunami hit and already there were hand-painted signs up everywhere saying "Thank you to all foreigners helping us in our time of trouble" - pretty cool, don't you think?"
