India - Teaching in Kalimpong

The volunteers are expected to teach English and other subjects, depending on their interests and abilities. This could include sport, music, art or drama if you have skills in any of these areas (or are just willing to give it a go!) With the help of the MondoChallenge Foundation, At Alpha School, the children are being taught how to create their own small vegetable gardens and are experimenting with new varieties to widen their diets. The school would welcome volunteers who wanted to help with this.

The location is fabulous with views of Kanchenjunga and the fascinating region of Sikkim is close by. There are many opportunities for visits and trekking at the weekends. Some of the highlights include the tea plantations, monasteries, the famous 'toy train' in Darjeeling and sunrise over the Himalayas at Tiger Hill.

We are currently working with five primary schools close to Kalimpong (30 to 45 minutes away): Alpha Nursery, New Rise Academy, Lotus Academy, Mount View and St Alex Academy.
