“I had a great time and although I found the teaching hard at times I’m really glad I did it and think it did me good to have a challenge like that”
George Watson from UK - National Beekeepers Association of the Gambia
"On the ground, the bees are going well, with
plenty of orders and the production unit is now taking a little bit
more shape under my tuition.
James has done a great job on the finance, mainly in training the
bookkeeper and setting up the system. Business wise we have secured
an important agreement
with the largest commercial farm out here called Radville. They have
agreed to buy 100 hives from the association, site them on their
land and give
us all the honey at a knockdown price. They gain a well-managed apiary
site that helps them with their environmental assessments and we
gain a sustainable source of income! It is a major step forward as
this will generate
lots of cash purely for the association."
James Garner from UK - National Beekeepers Association of the Gambia
"A great
opportunity out there. A lot more can be done but little that I dare make
a start on for fear of not finishing.
Charlotte Crawford from UK - Santa Yala
'It’s a chance to offer help to people who really need it at a grass roots level. It teaches us to appreciate what we have and learn from people who don’t have the luxuries we take for granted. It also teaches them that we are all the same. The opinion of the people at my working place was very different when I finished than when I started."
