MondoChallenge Project Costs
Why do I need to pay a contribution?
MondoChallenge is NOT supported by any government money and so is entirely dependent on its funding from fees paid by our Volunteers.
We are a not-for-profit organisation which aims to give a very high level of service whilst ensuring that overheads are kept as low as possible.

Additional Costs
In addition to the Programme Contribution cost outlined above you will also need to cover the following costs:
Flights, insurance and inoculations. As our aim is to be flexible it is up to volunteers to organise their own flights, insurance and inoculations although advice and contacts are available on request. Accommodation and Food locally. MondoChallenge organises board and lodging locally, usually with a host family. As we do not want to get involved as middle men, this cost is paid direct to the host families. The cost does vary from project to project but is usually around £15 per week including all meals.
Special Offers
· We offer a 15% discount for couples or friends volunteering together!
· Another interesting offer to note is our “Mondo Combo”. This allows you to volunteer in two different projects (either in the same country or in completely different continents) without any extra charges. This offer is especially feasible for 6 months-long placements.
What is the contribution used for?
The volunteer contribution covers everything from staff wages to office overheads, admin costs, promotions, travel and in project support.
UK overheads are as low as can be managed, commensurate with assuring a top level of service to new applicants, existing and past volunteers, and to our partners in 8 countries abroad. Based near Northampton in the centre of Britain (no high priced London offices!), most of its recruitment is carried out via the internet, with meetings in London to see candidates. It has a small promotional budget, incurs web maintenance and development costs and the normal admin charges that go with running operations abroad.
The HQ team is currently six people who, to cope with the growth in programmes and volunteer numbers, are usually in the office from 08.00 to 19.00 or later. They don't mind the hours; its exhilarating and satisfying work and the practical results are evident to all.
In addition, we have an overseas team who supervise the programmes in each country in which we operate. These managers need the level of support (telephones, travel, and office costs) which is required to run the operation and give full backup to the volunteers in their care.
We have also recently founded the MondoChallenge Foundation, a registered charity set up to support our volunteers on the ground. For more information, please see the MondoChallenge Foundation website . All of the admin work for the Charity is carried out by the same team as outlined above.
